Liverpool manager Arne Slot has emphasized that maintaining the squad which is dominating the Premier League is more important than making major signings for next season. With Liverpool 13 points clear at the top, Slot is content with the current team, particularly after Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk signed new deals to extend their stays at Anfield.
However, speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future persists, with reports suggesting that the England right-back could join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season. Despite this, Slot expressed his belief that the team’s success this season has proven the quality of the squad.
“Let’s see what the rest of the summer will bring, but it would be strange for me to say now I am not happy with the team,” Slot said on Friday. “We are happy with the team we have, and if we can keep it, that will already be a big summer.”
Slot, who made only one signing—Federico Chiesa—during his first year at Liverpool, noted that while adding new players could bring fresh energy, it’s not a necessity given the squad’s current strength.
Liverpool could secure the Premier League title as early as Sunday if they win at Leicester and Arsenal lose to Ipswich. Alexander-Arnold, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury, is now back in training and available for selection.
Slot also praised Alexander-Arnold’s contribution, calling him an “incredible” full-back and expressing hope that the club could retain his services despite the ongoing transfer rumors. “He has shown how hard he is trying to achieve our goals this season,” Slot added, highlighting the right-back’s importance to the team.
Liverpool’s sights are firmly set on securing the league title, with Slot’s focus on continuity and ensuring the squad remains intact as they look to build on their successful campaign.
