Kaduna Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing electricity supply in Kebbi State, while acknowledging the impact of grid instability and systemic challenges on its service delivery.
This assurance follows the recent formation of a committee by Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, to investigate persistent power outages and assess the performance of the electricity distribution company.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kaduna Electric welcomed the state government’s move, describing it as an opportunity for collaborative problem-solving. The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, noted that the initiative could help identify long-standing challenges and develop sustainable solutions.
“We see this as an opportunity to collaboratively identify systemic challenges and implement lasting solutions for better electricity services in the state,” Abdullahi stated.
The company expressed appreciation for its ongoing partnership with the state, particularly in strengthening power infrastructure and maintaining the network in Birnin Kebbi and surrounding areas.
Despite these efforts, Kaduna Electric highlighted several hurdles affecting its operations. It cited historically low revenue collection, even when Kebbi State previously received up to 20 hours of power supply daily. According to the statement, between September 2024 and February 2025, electricity worth over N10 billion was delivered, but less than N3 billion was recovered—resulting in technical and commercial losses exceeding 75%.
Other issues include grid instability, a fire outbreak at a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station, and ageing infrastructure.
In response, the company outlined several measures underway, such as attracting commercial and industrial clients, launching customer engagement drives, protecting revenue streams, and rehabilitating power networks.
Kaduna Electric also praised the Kebbi State Government for its ongoing support in infrastructure optimisation and highlighted recent improvements in stabilising power supply in line with feeder banding commitments.
Looking ahead, the company announced plans for a state-wide engagement campaign that will involve community leaders, traditional institutions, and consumer groups. The campaign aims to promote dialogue, align expectations, and encourage shared responsibility in addressing electricity challenges.
Reaffirming its readiness to cooperate with the newly formed committee, Kaduna Electric pledged to work with the state government and residents of Kebbi to “resolve existing gaps and rebuild trust in the power sector.”
