Tinubu Has Ended South-East Marginalisation – Minister Umahi Declares

Date:

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said that President Bola Tinubu has broken the long-standing jinx of marginalisation faced by the South-East region in the nation’s political and infrastructural development.

Umahi made the statement at the weekend during a civic reception held in his honour by the Okposi Okwu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The event recognised his contributions to social harmony, economic empowerment, and infrastructure in the area.

Speaking through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Uchenna Orji, the Minister commended President Tinubu for promoting equity in governance and for what he called “an end to decades of exclusion.” He described the current administration’s approach as one that ensures a fair distribution of democratic dividends across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

“The Minister thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for breaking the jinx of marginalisation in the South-East through equitable distribution of the dividends of democracy,” the statement noted.

Umahi, the first South-Easterner to hold the position of Minister of Works since Nigeria’s independence, pointed to ongoing road infrastructure projects across the region as tangible proof of the administration’s commitment to redressing historical neglect.

He further urged the South-East to show its appreciation by supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The well-attended reception drew key political figures from various parts of the country. Among them were Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. Others in attendance included former Senate President and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, former Governors Martin Elechi and Olusegun Osoba, as well as APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Chief Emma Enukwu.
