Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has strongly criticized governors from the opposition party who are reportedly planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), calling their actions a betrayal of the party that brought them to political prominence.His comments follow reports suggesting that three to four PDP governors are considering joining the APC to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. While Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has publicly declared support for Tinubu, other governors—such as Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Peter Mbah of Enugu, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara—are said to be weighing their political options.Speaking during an interview with ARISE News on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Bode George expressed disappointment and frustration, questioning the motivation behind the potential defections.“We are running a system that’s becoming despicable and disheartening. A platform that gave you the opportunity to serve your people—now, halfway into your tenure, you’re jumping ship?” he said.George challenged the defecting governors to explain what the APC has offered to justify their departure from the PDP. “The electorate supported you because of the PDP’s programmes. Now you want to cross over? What exactly did the APC present to you?” he asked.He warned that such moves erode public trust in democratic institutions and emphasized the unpredictable nature of politics, adding, “24 hours is a long time in politics—anything can happen.”
