Afrobeats superstar Davido has credited American R&B singer Chris Brown with playing a transformative role in his music career.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, the Nigerian artist recounted how his relationship with the global pop star began in 2018 and how it helped elevate his artistry and international reach.
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life,” Davido said. “I met him in 2018. He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends.”
The ‘Blow My Mind’ singer shared that the initial connection happened via a FaceTime call. “The friend called me one day on FaceTime and my song was playing in the background. I asked where he was and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house. I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And he showed me Chris dancing to my song,” Davido recalled.
The call ended with Chris Brown taking the phone and engaging in a brief conversation with Davido — a moment that would lead to a lasting friendship. “A few months later, I went to America and linked up with Chris. From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends,” he added.
Their friendship eventually blossomed into several collaborations, beginning with the 2019 hit Blow My Mind, which solidified Davido’s presence on the global stage and deepened his ties to the U.S. music scene.
