An inspector attached to the Rivers State Police Command, identified as Maxwell Zubu, has allegedly taken his own life in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Zubu was reportedly serving as a security aide to a former Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area at the time of the incident.
Sources told our correspondent that the matter was promptly reported to the police post at Eagle Island, which falls under the Azikiwe Police Division located at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt. A police source who requested anonymity said officers from the division visited the scene as part of preliminary investigations.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the inspector’s death.
“Yes, I can confirm [the incident], but we have commenced an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident and we will make our findings public,” Iringe-Koko stated.
She added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for a thorough probe.
