Popular Ghanaian singer Kidi has triggered widespread reactions following his controversial remarks about women’s sexual history during an appearance on the Rants, Bants And Confessions podcast.
The “Cheat On You” hitmaker expressed a distinction between casual flings and serious relationships, stating that while he is open to casual encounters with women who have high body counts, he would not consider them for a committed relationship or marriage.
Answering a question from the podcast co-host about whether a woman’s sexual history matters, Kidi said: “If you are just having a good time, we are having fun, I don’t care. But if you are somebody I am going to be calling mine, it matters.”
He explained that he wouldn’t feel comfortable dating someone who had been with many men, as he would feel scrutinized in social settings. “I don’t want to walk into a space and all the guys there are looking at me somehow because they have history with the woman I am with,” he said. “I don’t want a woman who has slept with too many men.”
Kidi went on to suggest that people lose parts of themselves after multiple emotional relationships, likening it to a process of gradual degradation. “If you’ve shed 50 bits of you, what is left for me?” he asked.
His comments have since sparked intense debate online, with some defending his perspective as a matter of personal preference, while others have criticized his remarks as judgmental and rooted in double standards.
