The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2025 Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has called on party members and loyalists to remain strong and focused amid ongoing challenges.
Addressing hundreds of party faithful during a stakeholders meeting in Benin on Thursday, Ighodalo assured members of the PDP that those who worked diligently during the election would be duly rewarded.
“We will restructure, strengthen, and refocus the party,” he said. “Those days when people who didn’t work got rewarded are gone. From now on, loyalty and hard work will be recognised.”
Ighodalo praised the resilience of party members who stood firm despite intimidation and heavy spending by the opposition, insisting the PDP had won the election decisively.
He also addressed concerns about the ongoing legal battle over the election outcome, confirming that the party had filed an appeal and was prepared to pursue the case to the Supreme Court if necessary. “God is just,” he said, encouraging members to remain hopeful.
The meeting was attended by several key PDP leaders, including Chief Tom Ikimi, former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, former NDDC representative Marvelous Omobayo, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Matthew Iduoyekemen, Osarodion Ogie, and many others across the state’s political structure.
Ighodalo reiterated the need for unity within the PDP, promising continued dedication to the people of Edo State.
