Daddy Showkey Slams Governor Bago Over Anti-Dreadlocks Order

Date:

Veteran Nigerian musician Daddy Showkey has strongly criticised Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, over his directive to security agents to arrest individuals with dreadlocks in Minna.

The governor issued the controversial order during a security meeting on Tuesday as part of efforts to tackle rising insecurity in the state capital.

Reacting in a video posted to his Instagram page on Thursday, Daddy Showkey, famed for his iconic dreadlocks, questioned the rationale behind the directive. He asked whether dreadlocks were truly the cause of insecurity in the state.

“I was supposed to come to Minna, but now that you asked your security agents to cut off dreadlocks, hold your state,” he said, visibly displeased.

The music legend went further, challenging the governor to start with himself: “Mohammed Umar, na Dada be your problem? Make you cut your beer beer first before talking about people’s hair.”

His response has since sparked online debate, with many social media users echoing his concerns over what they view as a discriminatory and misplaced approach to security enforcement.
