Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and other former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members on their recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement, Okpebholo said the move has significantly strengthened the APC’s position in the South-South region and secured President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027. He acknowledged the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape, noting that leaders often act in the best interest of their states and constituents.
The Edo governor extended his best wishes to Oborevwori, Okowa, and the other defectors, expressing hope for continued cooperation between Edo and Delta States to promote regional development. He reaffirmed Edo’s commitment to fostering strong ties with neighbouring states to achieve common goals.
Okpebholo noted that with the latest political shifts, the APC has secured a solid footing in the South-South, a development he believes will attract greater federal attention to the region. He highlighted that with three of the six South-South states now under APC control, the region is better positioned to negotiate more favourable outcomes.
Looking ahead, Okpebholo expressed optimism that Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States may soon follow suit by joining the APC, further consolidating the party’s strength in the region.
