Following the recent defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party chieftain and businessman, Comrade Besidone Eyengho, has declared that Delta can no longer afford to be governed by an opposition party.
Speaking in a statement, Eyengho stressed that national policy, development, and budgeting are driven by the party in power at the federal level. According to him, it would be a strategic disadvantage for Delta State to remain aligned with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as “visibly struggling” due to internal divisions, power tussles, and a lack of clear direction.
“In the ever-evolving landscape of Nigerian politics, one truth remains unshakable: politics is not a game of hatred—it is a contest of interests, guided by vision, strategy, and the collective good,” Eyengho said. “As Delta State stands at the crossroads of political realignment and national relevance, we must ask ourselves: Can we afford to remain in opposition when the center holds the key to progress?”
He praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership qualities, saying the governor deserves a political platform that matches his ambitions for Delta State. Eyengho argued that the APC, which controls the federal government, offers that opportunity.
“Remaining in opposition is not a display of strength—it is a surrender of opportunity,” he noted, adding that Delta State’s immense natural wealth and political potential should be maximized through collaboration with the party at the center.
Eyengho also pointed to the emotional and ancestral ties between the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Delta State, describing it as a “strategic advantage” that should not be wasted.
He urged Deltans to move past political bitterness, emphasizing that the moment called for unity, forgiveness, and strategic alignment with national leadership.
“The APC has grown into a tent big enough for all,” he stated. “We must bring Governor Oborevwori into that vision and, with him, the people of Delta.”
Besidone Eyengho, a founder of various businesses, is also known for his role as an administrator and advocate for human and social development.
