Lagos APC Adopts Indirect Primaries as Badagry Monarch Urges Daughter to Withdraw from Council Race

Date:

Badagry, Lagos — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has confirmed the adoption of indirect primaries for selecting chairmanship and councillorship candidates in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for May 10.

In a statement signed by the party’s state Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, and Secretary, Adeola Jokomba, the APC outlined that the selection process would be conducted through indirect primaries, without room for consensus candidates. Delegates will be required to present their APC membership cards and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) linked to their wards to participate in the voting.

The guidelines prohibit canvassing at the election venue and restrict party officials from acting as polling agents or electoral officers.

Meanwhile, in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), a royal intervention has stirred political conversations. The Akweno of Kweme Kingdom, Oba Sejiro James, has urged his daughter, Damilola James—a strong contender for the council chairmanship—to withdraw from the race in the interest of equity and fairness.

Oba James made the appeal during a recent visit by another aspirant, Oluremi Ajose, daughter of Oba Oyekan Ajose Possi III, who sought royal blessings for her candidacy. The monarch explained that royal fathers across the five wards of Badagry West LCDA had resolved to support Ajose’s bid to ensure rotational fairness.

He noted that Wards A, B, and D had previously produced council chairmen since the LCDA’s creation, while Wards C (Apa) and E (Seme) are yet to enjoy the same opportunity. The monarch’s call is seen as part of broader efforts to uphold balance and inclusivity in local governance.
