Oyo Government Pays N60 Million Monthly to Pensioners, Enrolls Over 600 New Retirees in 2025

Date:

Ibadan — The Oyo State Government has disclosed that it pays N60 million monthly to state pensioners as part of an ongoing strategy to clear outstanding pension arrears and improve the welfare of retirees.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Pension Board, Tunji Adekunle, made this known in a statement released on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.

Adekunle said 22,212 pensioners are currently on the board’s payroll as of April 2025, adding that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to the timely payment of pensions. He noted that pensions are paid on or before the 25th of every month, in line with salary payments to active workers.

“A sum of N60 million is being paid to the state pensioners monthly in a bid to clear their outstanding arrears,” Adekunle stated.

He also revealed that the board has consistently enrolled new retirees this year, with 142 pensioners added in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April, bringing the total new additions in 2025 to over 600.

The Permanent Secretary of the Pension Board, Hammed Bello, also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support to pensioners, noting that the regular disbursement has significantly eased the financial burden on many retirees.

Bello reaffirmed the board’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvements in pension management across the state.
