Flying Eagles Edge Tunisia in U-20 AFCON Opener

Date:

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles kicked off their 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Tunisia on Thursday at the Cairo International Stadium.

Auwal Ibrahim netted the decisive goal in the 37th minute, coolly converting a well-timed through ball from Odinaka Okoro to give Nigeria the lead.

The second half saw both teams adopt a more cautious approach. Tunisia pressed for an equaliser, but Nigeria’s defence stood strong, while the Eagles looked to hit on the break.

Despite a few chances to extend their lead, the Flying Eagles couldn’t add a second, but Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s men held on to seal all three points in their Group B opener.

Nigeria will now face Morocco on Sunday, May 4, as they aim to build on their winning start.
