Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 35-year-old man, Obi Emmanuel, for allegedly spearheading illegal drug activities in the Yewa North area of the state.
According to a statement issued by CSP Shodeke Sholanke (rtd), Director of Intelligence and Investigation for the corps, the suspect was apprehended around 4:30 pm in front of a chemist shop at the bustling Ayetoro market in Yewa North Local Government Area.
The arrest followed credible intelligence from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which indicated that Emmanuel was behind a series of drug trafficking operations in the region. Investigators believe he had recruited a commercial driver, identified only as Alausa, to transport large quantities of suspected hard drugs.
The NDLEA had earlier intercepted Alausa on Wednesday, May 7, along the Abeokuta-Ayetoro road while he was driving an 18-seater Mazda bus loaded with illicit substances. During interrogation, the driver confessed that the drugs belonged to Emmanuel, prompting swift action by the Amotekun operatives.
Sholanke described the arrest as a “significant breakthrough” in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Ogun State. He noted that the collaboration between the Amotekun Corps and the NDLEA highlights a growing synergy between security agencies in the state.
The statement further urged residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
Obi Emmanuel has since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
