Tinubu Hails Nigerian Army for Securing Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway Project

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts in providing security along the ongoing Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project, describing the road as a vital link that will boost economic growth and connectivity across Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, during his operational visit to troops stationed at the Forward Operations Base Laager in Kebbi State. The visit was aimed at relaying the president’s appreciation directly to the personnel on ground.

In a statement released on Friday by Mati Ali, the minister’s media aide, Badaru conveyed Tinubu’s gratitude for the military’s commitment to safeguarding workers and equipment involved in the highway construction.

“The president also praised your dedication to safeguarding personnel and equipment at the construction site,” the minister stated. “This project is a game-changer for travellers, particularly those commuting between Sokoto and Lagos.”

The highway, which is part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is designed to improve transportation infrastructure and stimulate economic development. The dualisation of the 1,068-kilometre road was launched in October 2024 and is expected to run through seven states—Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos.

Awarded to Hitech Construction Company Limited, the first phase of the project is projected to be completed by 2027. Alongside the Lagos–Calabar highway, the Illela–Sokoto–Badagry route is part of a broader infrastructure plan estimated to cost the federal government N13 trillion.

The government has pledged not to compromise on quality and has adopted strict standards to ensure a durable and efficient road network.
