The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has launched a series of stakeholder engagement forums ahead of the July 12, 2025, local council elections. The initiative began in the Ikorodu division and will extend to the other four administrative zones of the state—Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.
Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), assured participants of the commission’s commitment to conducting a credible, inclusive, and transparent election. Addressing representatives from political parties, civil society groups, security agencies, and community leaders, she emphasised the importance of public trust in the electoral process.
“The success of any electoral exercise depends largely on building public confidence,” she said. The forum, themed ‘Enhancing a Credible and Inclusive Local Government Elections in Lagos State’, seeks to gather input from stakeholders to strengthen the process.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile also confirmed that LASIEC has issued both the notice of election and election guidelines, formally initiating the 2025 council election process.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted an appeal committee to address complaints from its recent primary elections. The committee, led by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), includes Abiodun Olufowobi (Secretary), Jokotola Pelumi, Lanre Ogunyemi, and Chukwudi Adiukwu.
The party urged dissatisfied aspirants to submit their appeals to the committee by noon on May 13, 2025.
