Nigeria’s crude oil output, including condensates, showed mixed figures for April 2025, according to separate reports released by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
OPEC’s May 2025 Monthly Oil Market Report (MOMR) revealed that Nigeria’s oil production stood at 1.486 million barrels per day (bpd) in April, up from 1.401 million bpd recorded in March. This figure is based on data sourced through direct communication with Nigerian authorities.
However, OPEC noted that data obtained from secondary sources placed Nigeria’s April production slightly lower at 1.471 million bpd.
In contrast, the NUPRC’s monthly report offered a significantly higher estimate, stating that Nigeria produced an average of 1.683 million bpd in April—a 5 percent increase from 1.603 million bpd in March. This figure includes 1.485 million bpd of crude oil and 197,607 bpd of condensate, with output peaking at 1.73 million bpd during the month.
The commission stated that average crude oil production in April amounted to 99 percent of Nigeria’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million bpd, reflecting near-full compliance with the organisation’s production ceiling.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices remained below expectations, with Nigeria’s Bonny Light crude trading at $66 per barrel as of Wednesday. This is $9 less than the Federal Government’s 2025 budget benchmark of $75 per barrel.
The government’s 2025 fiscal plan of N54.99 trillion is predicated on an oil price of $75 per barrel, daily output of 2.06 million bpd, and an exchange rate of N1,500 per dollar.
In a related development, the NUPRC announced the successful export of the first cargo of Nigeria’s new crude blend, Obodo, which was unveiled in March. Commission CEO Gbenga Komolafe congratulated Conoil Producing Limited for achieving the milestone, calling it a significant step for indigenous participation in Nigeria’s upstream sector.
“The launch and export of Obodo blend demonstrate the growing capacity of local operators to contribute meaningfully to national crude output and export revenue,” Komolafe said.
