Kulusevski Out of Europa League Final After Knee Surgery Blow to Tottenham

Date:

Dejan Kulusevski will miss Tottenham’s Europa League final against Manchester United after undergoing surgery on his knee, delivering a major blow to Spurs’ hopes of ending their long trophy drought.

Kulusevski sustained the injury during Sunday’s 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace after a challenge from Marc Guehi and was substituted in the 19th minute.

While Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou initially gave a mixed assessment post-match, further scans revealed the Swedish midfielder required surgery.

A club statement confirmed:
“We can confirm that Dejan Kulusevski suffered an injury to his right patella in our Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace last weekend. Following further specialist consultation, the midfielder has undergone surgery today (Wednesday) and will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately.”

Adding to Tottenham’s injury woes, midfielder James Maddison was ruled out for the remainder of the season last week.

Currently 17th in the Premier League, Spurs will face Manchester United, who sit just above them, in the Europa League final in Bilbao on May 21.

Tottenham have not won a trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2008, and their last European title dates back to their UEFA Cup triumph in 1984.
