Marcus Rashford Out for Rest of Season as Aston Villa Face Tottenham

Date:

Marcus Rashford will miss the remainder of Aston Villa’s season after being ruled out of Friday’s crucial Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur due to a hamstring injury. The England forward, currently on loan from Manchester United, will also miss Villa’s final league game against his parent club on May 25, effectively ending his campaign early.

Rashford, 27, has been sidelined since last month and missed Villa’s 3-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Crystal Palace. His future at Villa remains uncertain, as the club holds a £40 million option to make his loan move permanent. However, Rashford reportedly desires Champions League football next season, something Villa have yet to secure.

Alongside Rashford, midfielder Youri Tielemans is also unavailable for Friday’s home clash with Tottenham. Villa manager Unai Emery confirmed, “Youri and Marcus are not available and Jacob Ramsey is suspended.” He added that the players are recovering but Rashford will definitely miss next week’s match.

The Tottenham fixture was moved to Friday evening after Spurs requested extra preparation time ahead of their Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday. Despite Villa’s dissatisfaction with the scheduling, Emery expects Spurs to field a strong side, praising their impressive Europa League run.

Currently sixth in the Premier League, Villa are battling Chelsea, Manchester City, and Newcastle for Champions League qualification, with the top five earning spots in Europe’s premier club competition. Emery expressed determination, saying, “We are very motivated, very excited to play in Villa Park tomorrow for our objectives… It is not in our hands, but we can have some chance to play Champions League again. We are focusing on Tottenham.”
