UK-Based Nigerian Lawyer Urges Respect for President Tinubu Amid U.S. Legal Allegations

Date:

BENIN CITY — United Kingdom-based Nigerian legal practitioner and philanthropist, Professor Gaskin Igbineweka, has called on Nigerians to stop castigating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged legal issues linked to his past in the United States.

In a statement issued in Benin City, Professor Igbineweka, who also serves as the President of the Nigerian Welfare Club in the UK, urged the public to respect the office of the President, regardless of political differences. He argued that even if President Tinubu had committed any offence during his time in the U.S., any such conviction would have been nullified under the law.

“Even if the President committed any crime in the U.S. when he was there, such conviction has been vitiated and his slate wiped clean,” he stated.

Describing President Tinubu as the leader of the most populous Black nation in the world, the elder statesman emphasized that Nigerians must show him the respect due to his position.

Professor Igbineweka, known for his advocacy and philanthropy within the diaspora community, added that his stance was rooted in patriotism. He said he would support any future president of Nigeria, regardless of their political background or ethnicity.

“As a patriot, I will back anybody who becomes the President in future, regardless of their political leaning or ethnic affiliation,” he affirmed.
