Real Madrid Sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth in £50 Million Deal

Date:

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Spain defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth after triggering his £50 million ($59 million) release clause, the club announced on Saturday.

The 20-year-old centre-back, who joined the Cherries from Juventus in 2024 for £12.8 million, has impressed during his debut Premier League season, drawing attention from several top clubs. However, Madrid acted swiftly to secure his signature.

“Real Madrid and Bournemouth have reached a deal for the transfer of player Dean Huijsen, who will be at our club for the next five seasons, from June 1, 2025 until June 30, 2030,” Los Blancos said in an official statement.

Bournemouth confirmed the deal, noting that Madrid had activated the release clause. Reports suggest that Huijsen’s former clubs, Juventus and Malaga, will receive a portion of the transfer fee due to sell-on clauses.

Born in the Netherlands, Huijsen moved to Spain at age five and developed through Malaga’s youth system. He later joined Juventus and rose through their ranks before making a Premier League switch to Bournemouth.

Huijsen made his debut for the Spanish national team in March, helping La Roja defeat the Netherlands to qualify for the UEFA Nations League final four.

He will be available for Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign this summer in the United States, where they begin their tournament against Al-Hilal on June 18 in Miami.

Madrid are undergoing a period of transition following a disappointing season in which they failed to secure a major trophy and suffered 14 defeats across all competitions. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to depart for the Brazil national team, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso expected to take over at the Bernabéu.

Huijsen is one of several expected reinforcements this summer, with England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also set to join on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expires.
