Wike Announces 19-Day Project Commissioning to Mark Tinubu’s Two Years in Office Amid Political Tensions

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), led by Minister Nyesom Wike, has planned a 19-day project commissioning to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second anniversary in office. The commissioning will begin on June 10, 2025, and feature key infrastructure developments across Abuja.

Among the projects set for unveiling are the renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, bus terminals at Kugbo and Mabushi, and the Apo/Wassa road. Major roadworks include the N16 interchange, the Maitama-Katampe-Jahi connector, Inner Northern Expressway (Ring Road 3 from Idu to Kubwa Road), CN8 from Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Court of Appeal, N20 Flyover on Kubwa Road, and Life Junction to Ring Road III.

Additionally, the FCTA approved a contract to upgrade streetlights along Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I). The Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, confirmed these projects were part of seven memos submitted for approval.

Separately, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Tinubu, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, expressed criticism over the recent endorsement of Tinubu for a second term by North-West APC leaders. He argued that ordinary people affected by violence, poverty, and insecurity will ultimately judge political leaders in the 2027 elections, highlighting a disconnect between politicians and the populace.

At a political event in Kaduna, the House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris backed Tinubu’s re-election bid, while APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje announced automatic second-term tickets for North-West governors. Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned from Tinubu’s administration, condemned this move, accusing party leaders of ignoring the people’s plight in favour of political self-interest.
