Portuguese police announced Tuesday that the Women’s Champions League trophy, stolen from Lisbon’s Estadio Jose Alvalade, has been recovered. The stadium is set to host the final between holders Barcelona and Arsenal on May 24.
The theft happened during a league match between Sporting Lisbon and Vitoria Guimaraes on Saturday but was only reported to police the next day. According to police, several masked individuals forced open a gate in the stadium’s garage to steal the trophy and other UEFA equipment.
All stolen items have since been returned to UEFA. Thirteen suspects have been identified, though details of the recovery operation remain undisclosed. The investigation is ongoing, with police expecting more arrests and recoveries in the coming days.
