ABUJA – A coalition of opposition politicians led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has debunked reports claiming it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official platform for the 2027 presidential election.
Malam Salihu Lukman, a prominent member of the coalition, dismissed the report in a statement issued on Thursday, describing the claims as entirely false and misleading.
“My attention is drawn to a Vanguard newspaper publication claiming that I have been appointed to head the Secretariat of the coalition. The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken,” Lukman stated.
He also refuted the report that the coalition resolved to adopt the ADC at its meeting held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
“The truth is negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well, and final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election will be taken soon,” he explained.
Lukman warned that certain individuals were deliberately circulating misleading stories in the media to disrupt the unity of the coalition.
“Unfortunately, there appear to be some mischief-makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders. The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories,” he added.
The coalition, which brings together key opposition figures, is reportedly working toward presenting a united front to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s expected re-election bid in 2027. However, a formal announcement regarding its political platform has yet to be made.
