President Bola Tinubu on Thursday inaugurated the newly appointed board and executive management team of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), officially marking the end of Mele Kyari’s tenure as Group Chief Executive Officer.
The inauguration took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, shortly before the president attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit at the Banquet Hall.
The appointments, which took effect from April 2, 2025, were first announced seven weeks ago and represent a new leadership direction for the NNPCL.
The new board includes Adedapo Segun, Bello Rabiu representing the North West, Yusuf Usman for the North East, and Babs Omotowa, a former Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Limited, representing the North Central. Also on the board are Austin Avuru as non-executive director for the South South, David Ige for the South West, and Henry Obih for the South East.
Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will represent the ministry on the board, while Aminu Ahmed represents the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
The changes are part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to reform and reposition Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
