President Bola Tinubu has predicted that more politicians from opposition parties will defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing this shift as a natural part of Nigeria’s democratic evolution. Speaking at the APC National Summit held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he was officially endorsed as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Tinubu emphasized that the APC continues to be the leading platform representing Nigerians’ aspirations.
“You don’t blame a people bailing out of a sinking ship,” he stated, adding, “I’m expecting more to come, that is the game. We are in a constitutional democracy that guarantees freedom of movement and freedom of association. Welcome to the progressives.”
Responding to the endorsement from the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and the APC National Working Committee (NWC), Tinubu said their unified support showed the confidence they have in his leadership. “The endorsement today, the ‘carry go’ expression, I know road,” he said. “We will lead you on to that promised land.”
He also assured Nigerians that the government’s economic recovery efforts are progressing well and encouraged citizens to remain optimistic about the future.
