Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has made history as the first Nigerian female artiste to surpass 1 billion total views on YouTube, setting a new benchmark for female musicians in the country.
The 23-year-old singer achieved the milestone by overtaking Yemi Alade’s previous record of 805 million views on the platform. Ayra Starr’s breakout track and Grammy-nominated hit, Rush, accounts for a significant portion of the views, having garnered over 450 million views alone.
With this accomplishment, Ayra Starr not only cements her position as Nigeria’s most viewed female artist on YouTube but also joins an elite group of Nigerian music stars — including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, Flavour, Ckay, Kizz Daniel, P-Square, Omah Lay, Fireboy, and Tekno — who have crossed the 1 billion mark on the global video-sharing platform.
Her rise adds to the growing global recognition of Nigerian Afrobeats and the increasing influence of female voices in the genre.
