The Super Eagles of Nigeria return to action today as they face off against arch-rivals Ghana in the highly anticipated 2025 Unity Cup fixture.
Nicknamed the “Jollof Derby,” the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana is one of the fiercest in African football. The two West African giants have clashed 56 times, with Ghana holding the edge with 25 wins. Nigeria has 13 victories, while 18 matches have ended in draws.
The Unity Cup, being staged for the first time in 21 years, aims to strengthen football and cultural ties between African and Caribbean communities in the United Kingdom. The 2025 edition features four teams: Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Jamaica secured a place in the final on Tuesday after edging Trinidad & Tobago 3–2. The winner of today’s clash between Nigeria and Ghana will face the Jamaicans in the tournament decider.
Nigeria last won the Unity Cup in its inaugural edition in 2004, defeating the Republic of Ireland 3–0 and Jamaica 2–0.
