Davido Explains Why He’s the Most-Followed African Artist on Social Media

Date:

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, attributes his massive social media following to his openness and genuine interaction with fans.

In a recent interview with BET Talks, the ‘With You’ hitmaker said his willingness to be authentic sets him apart from many African artists who are often reluctant to reveal their true selves online.

Davido explained, “I’m the most-followed African artist across social media because I’m free with my fans. In the beginning of my career, I was very open. I used to do vlogs, showing people my life. A lot of Nigerian and African artists are always scared to show their real selves.”

He added that living in America broadened his mindset and helped him embrace a more relaxed, down-to-earth approach. “Some artists won’t take pictures in shorts and slippers while chilling at home. But I still see myself as a regular person. When it’s time to turn up, trust me, I turn up.”

Davido also noted that upon returning to Nigeria, he noticed some celebrities overthink their image on social media. His advice: “Just be chill. Just go with the flow. I feel like that’s how it should be.”
