As preparations for Eid-el-Kabir gather momentum, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Jigawa State has cautioned the public—especially animal traders—to be wary of individuals attempting to use counterfeit currency during livestock transactions.
The police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu, issued the warning in a statement on Thursday in Dutse. He noted that with the increased buying and selling of sacrificial animals, fraudsters may exploit the festive rush to circulate fake naira notes.
“Animals are being sold for sacrifice as Eid el Kabir draws near. Therefore, we urge everyone, particularly those who buy and sell animals, to be extra careful about counterfeit currency in their business dealings,” Shiisu said.
He urged animal dealers and residents to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest security agency to ensure swift action.
This warning comes as Saudi Arabia has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as the date for Eid-el-Adha, following the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the start of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
