Suspected Fulani bandits have abducted a traditional ruler, Mr. Emmanuel Omanji, the Sangarin Dari, following a late-night attack on his palace in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The attackers, said to be heavily armed, stormed the monarch’s residence on Wednesday night, firing sporadically to scare residents before seizing the royal father and whisking him away to an unknown location.
Eyewitnesses confirmed to our reporter that the community was thrown into panic as gunshots echoed throughout the area during the assault.
Confirming the incident, the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, had deployed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, along with the military and local vigilantes, to launch a rescue operation.
Nansel assured that efforts were underway to safely rescue the monarch and bring the culprits to justice. He also appealed to members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid the operation.
“The Commissioner of Police has assured that the royal father will be rescued. We urge anyone with relevant information to contact the police without hesitation,” Nansel said.
