In a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised at least 60 terrorists during a coordinated overnight land and air assault in Bita, Gwoza axis of southern Borno State.
According to a reliable military source who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, the operation began at exactly 1:09 a.m. on Friday, following an attempted attack by the terrorists on a military position.
The offensive was carried out by troops under the 26 Task Force Brigade of Sector 1, in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The source confirmed that the insurgents were overpowered during a fierce firefight, resulting in the destruction of two enemy gun trucks and the deaths of scores of militants.
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai reportedly deployed A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and the Dragon platform to deliver precision airstrikes, significantly weakening enemy capabilities.
“Over 60 terrorists were confirmed neutralised in the initial engagement, while ground forces commenced exploitation operations to pursue fleeing elements,” the source disclosed. He added that follow-up airstrikes continued into the morning, with more terrorist vehicles destroyed and several fighters escaping into the surrounding forests.
A senior military officer, who requested anonymity, described the offensive as “one of the most decisive and devastating hits against ISWAP in recent months,” praising the effective synergy between air and ground forces.
The Nigerian Army also acknowledged the success of the operation in a post on its official X handle, @HQNigerianArmy, calling it a major stride in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.
Bita and its environs have experienced a surge in terrorist activity in recent weeks, prompting intensified military operations aimed at restoring peace and security to the region.
