Fernandes Starts Amid Exit Rumours as Man United Beat Hong Kong 3-1

Date:

Bruno Fernandes featured in what could be his final Manchester United appearance as they came from behind to defeat Hong Kong 3-1 in a post-season friendly on Friday.

Teen substitute Chido Obi was the star, netting twice in the second half, while Ayden Heaven added a late header to seal the win at a rain-soaked Hong Kong Stadium.

Despite early dominance, United fell behind in the 19th minute due to a mistake from stand-in keeper Tom Heaton, who failed to keep out a shot from Brazil-born Juninho.

Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho — both linked with exits — started the match and impressed early on, though Fernandes wasted a one-on-one chance with an audacious finish.

Ruben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag during a turbulent campaign that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League, made wholesale changes at halftime. Garnacho and Fernandes were both subbed off and could have made their final appearances for the club.

Obi equalised five minutes into the second half with a clever turn and finish before heading home in the 82nd minute. Heaven’s late strike ensured United ended their Asia tour on a positive note, though questions about the squad’s future remain.
