Tinubu to Commission First Completed Section of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on May 31

Date:

The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has announced that the first completed section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be officially commissioned on Saturday, May 31, 2025. This marks the delivery of Phase I, Section I — a 30-kilometre stretch of the 750-kilometre project.

According to the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Uchenna Orji, the commissioning ceremony will take place at Kilometer 8 of the project, located in the Jakande Estate area of Lagos State.

Engr. Umahi also disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to virtually commission several other completed “Renewed Hope” signature infrastructure projects across Southern Nigeria. These include sections of the Lekki Peninsula, the East-West Road in Rivers State, the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway, the Alesi–Ugep section in Cross River State, and the reconstructed Enugu Bridge on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, one of Tinubu’s flagship Renewed Hope Legacy Projects, was originally conceived 27 years ago. The project aims to improve access along coastal communities in nine states, expand Nigeria’s transportation network, and promote inclusive development, regional integration, and national cohesion.

“Today, as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a dream conceived has become a dream actualized,” said Umahi.
