Bella Shmurda Declares Shift from Secular to Conscious Music

Date:

Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda says he no longer considers himself part of the secular music industry, revealing a major shift in his artistic direction.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast with Joey Akan, Shmurda said his focus has moved away from making trend-driven music. Instead, he now prioritizes creating conscious songs aimed at uplifting listeners and promoting self-awareness.

“At this point, I feel like I’m not in the [secular music] industry anymore,” he said. “I no longer make music that follows trend… I just want to make music to uplift people’s souls, making people self-conscious and aware of who they are.”

Shmurda added that while he might occasionally release a trendy track, his main goal is to stay true to his purpose and message. “Even if I want to make trendy music, I do that and quickly return to my purpose. And I feel like that’s the balance,” he said.
