Police-Led Joint Task Force Raids Criminal Camp in Anambra, Neutralises Suspect

Date:

The Police-led Joint Task Force (JTF) in Anambra State has dismantled a suspected criminal hideout in Agulu-Ezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, killing one suspect during a coordinated raid.

The operation, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, was confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued on Friday in Awka.

According to Ikenga, the task force, comprising operatives from the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Anambra Vigilante Group, launched the raid following intelligence reports.

“The operatives razed the identified criminal camp and neutralised one armed hoodlum during the operation,” Ikenga said.

Items recovered from the scene included an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna (registration number EKY 03 FF), an unregistered white Mazda Hilux, a motorcycle, mechanical tools, and various household and kitchen items such as pots, gallons, groceries, mattresses, and clothing. Authorities suspect these items were stolen or used for criminal purposes.

Ikenga revealed that the operation followed a fierce seven-hour gun battle between the task force and the armed suspects. He added that security personnel are currently combing the surrounding area, following blood trails in pursuit of other fleeing suspects.

The police spokesperson assured that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to dismantle similar camps and apprehend those behind criminal activities in the state.
