Political leaders and stakeholders from Lafia Local Government Area have urged former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election in 2027.
The endorsement came during a stakeholders’ engagement held on Monday in Lafia, where participants highlighted Adamu’s exemplary public service record and leadership experience.
Chairman of the event, Professor Mohammed Mainoma, former Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, said Adamu’s national and international experience makes him a strong candidate to lead the state.
“We want him to replicate his achievements at Interpol and as Nigeria’s IGP to bring peace and development to Nasarawa. He is bold, accountable, and resourceful,” Mainoma said.
Barrister Musa Hussaini, a close associate of Adamu, described the endorsement as historic, noting that this was the first time Lafia stakeholders had unanimously backed one individual.
“Since 1999, this level of unity has never been seen. Every key figure in Lafia is here to show support,” he said. He encouraged residents to register with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Adamu’s potential candidacy.
Hussaini acknowledged that about 30 people have expressed interest in the 2027 race but argued that Adamu stands out due to his leadership qualities.
Also speaking, Alhaji Abubakar Sarki-Dahiru, who represents Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, praised Adamu as a peace-loving leader and called on him to accept the challenge.
In his response, Mohammed Adamu said he had not planned to run but was moved by the show of support.
“I have always served the people, and if this is what they want, I will not turn away. However, I will consult widely before taking a final decision,” he said.
