The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from the recent visit of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to Governor Alex Otti, stating that the meeting does not reflect the position of the party.
In a statement issued by the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Sterling Urakpa, the APC reiterated its opposition to the Labour Party-led administration in Abia and its commitment to unseating Governor Otti in the 2027 elections. The party also expressed disapproval over Kalu’s public praise of the Otti administration, calling it inconsistent with the APC’s long-standing criticism of governance in the state.
“The visit was a personal engagement and does not, in any way, reflect the position or endorsement of the APC in Abia State,” the statement read.
The party accused the Otti-led government of operating with a lack of transparency, citing issues such as conflicts of interest and failure to disclose project costs and contract details. It warned party members against what it called “political fraternisation” with opposition leaders and called for greater party discipline as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
Urakpa urged ward and local council executives, especially in Kalu’s Abia North constituency, to safeguard party unity and focus on the goal of reclaiming the state. He also challenged Abians to assess the performance of their government against other APC-led states, arguing that the praise the current administration receives is not matched by its output.
“Our stance on governance in Abia remains unchanged and was clearly articulated by our State Chairman, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, during the launch of the Renewed Hope Partners in Bende,” the statement added.
The APC affirmed its readiness to align Abia with the Federal Government by reclaiming power in the 2027 polls.
