Kaduna — The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects in a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts in the Kawo area of Kaduna metropolis. The crackdown followed the tragic killing of a Naval officer, Lieutenant Commander M. Buba, who was stabbed to death in the area over the weekend.
Lt.-Cdr. Buba, who was undergoing training at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, was fatally attacked at about 4:50 a.m. on Sunday while attempting to fix a flat tyre on his vehicle.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident on Monday, adding that the operation was part of a broader effort to dismantle criminal elements threatening public peace in Kaduna.
“In response to the unfortunate killing and based on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, a joint tactical operation involving the police, military, DSS, KADVIS, and local vigilante groups was launched across Kawo and neighbouring areas,” Hassan said.
He disclosed that the joint operation, conducted around 8:30 p.m. on June 8, led to the arrest of 27 suspects. Recovered from the suspects were dangerous weapons, including knives, axes, and cutlasses, as well as a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other hard drugs.
Commissioner Muhammad reiterated the police command’s firm resolve to maintain law and order in Kaduna State. He assured residents that criminal activities will not be tolerated, urging anyone with violent intentions to steer clear of the state.
“Kaduna remains a peaceful state. We will not allow miscreants to destabilize the peace. The police will continue to clamp down on them and give them no breathing space,” the commissioner warned.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, as investigations continue.
