Idahosa Urges Nigerians to Uphold Unity as Tribute to Democracy Heroes

Date:

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, has called on Nigerians to preserve the unity and indivisibility of the country as a lasting tribute to the heroes of democracy.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Friday Aghedo, Idahosa emphasised that true honour to those who paid the ultimate price on June 12 can only be shown through a collective commitment to national unity.

He described June 12 as more than a historic date, but a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s resolve, resilience, and ongoing quest for justice and good governance.

“Today, we celebrate not just a date, but a journey—our collective commitment to freedom, justice, and the right of every Nigerian to have a voice,” he stated.

Reflecting on the nation’s democratic path, Idahosa maintained that despite the numerous challenges confronting the country, there remains no viable alternative to democracy.

He paid tribute to pro-democracy icons and urged citizens to honour their sacrifices by promoting values such as transparency, accountability, and civic responsibility.

The deputy governor also called on Nigerians to support leaders who prioritise public welfare, noting that democracy flourishes when citizens and leaders collaborate for the greater good.

Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to effective governance, Idahosa highlighted Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda, which aims to deliver impactful change across various sectors in the state.

“As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to supporting leaders who prioritise the welfare of the people,” he added. “Democracy is not a destination, it is a continuous process. Together, let’s build the Edo of our dreams.”
