Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has accused Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of hijacking the party’s internal structures and behaving like a “civilian dictator.”
Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, the former presidential aspirant criticised Wike’s growing influence, describing it as a threat to the PDP and Nigeria’s democratic values.
“What Wike is doing now is tantamount to staging a coup against the party that made him everything he is today,” Momodu said, adding that Wike lacks the moral authority to steer the PDP’s future.
He expressed concern over Wike’s alleged interference in the PDP’s 2027 presidential plans, questioning why a minister based in Abuja is dictating party affairs. Momodu also blamed Wike for the recent crisis in Rivers State, accusing him of refusing to relinquish control.
Momodu took aim at President Bola Tinubu for defending Wike and referring to critics as “busybodies,” calling the remarks inappropriate and dismissive of citizen concerns.
He warned that Nigeria’s democracy, hard-won through the June 12 struggle, is under threat from unchecked political dominance.
Though critical of PDP’s current trajectory, Momodu ruled out joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating, “My soul is out of PDP—I cannot sit in a room where one man dictates to adults.”
He called for urgent political reforms and a return to democratic principles, cautioning that continued autocratic behaviour could cause irreparable harm to Nigeria’s political system.
