Wike Says Tinubu’s Performance Has Crippled Opposition Coalition

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing infrastructure development, claiming it has weakened the opposition’s efforts to form a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Monday during the official commissioning of key road projects in Abuja, Wike praised Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the president’s achievements have rendered the opposition coalition ineffective.

“Under Tinubu, contractors now have confidence in the government,” Wike said. “Your good works have killed the coalition in Nigeria. Some people, whatever you do, will not be happy; many of them were born not to be happy.”

Wike’s remarks come amid reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders are mobilising to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.

Despite not being a member of the APC, Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has maintained close ties with the Tinubu administration.

Speaking at the same event, President Tinubu acknowledged Wike’s contributions, hinting at a possible defection to the APC.

“Even though Wike is not yet in our party, we will continue to be in a joyous mood with him,” Tinubu said. “And our rivals will continue to writhe in pain.”

The president made the comments while inaugurating the newly completed Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way), which connects Ring Road One (Nnamdi Azikiwe Way) to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Road), as well as several other roads in the Katampe District of Abuja.
