De Bruyne Joins Napoli After Manchester City Exit

Date:

Kevin De Bruyne has signed for Serie A champions Napoli as a free agent following his release from Manchester City, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed on Thursday.

De Laurentiis shared a photo of himself shaking hands with the Belgian midfielder on social media with the caption: “Welcome Kevin!”

De Bruyne, 33, has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with an option for a third. He will reunite with international teammate Romelu Lukaku and link up with ex-Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay at the Naples club.

The move marks the end of a glittering 10-year stint at Manchester City, where De Bruyne won six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023 under Pep Guardiola. However, his final seasons in England were hampered by recurring hamstring injuries.

Napoli are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare to defend the Scudetto and compete in the expanded Champions League. Under Antonio Conte, they secured the Serie A title on the final day of the season, edging Inter Milan, who had to juggle domestic duties with a run to the Champions League final.
