ABUJA — The Federal Government has condemned Israel’s recent preemptive military strike on Iran, warning that it marks a dangerous escalation in Middle East tensions.
In a statement released Saturday by Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria expressed deep concern over the resulting exchange of missiles and air assaults between both nations.
Calling for an immediate ceasefire, the government urged Israel and Iran to show restraint and prioritise peace. “Military action is not a substitute for negotiation,” the statement read, stressing that diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law remain the only path to lasting peace.
Nigeria also pledged support for any genuine initiative aimed at promoting peace and de-escalation, urging the United Nations Security Council to intensify efforts to mediate the crisis.
