BUENOS AIRES — Rising football talent Jonathan Spiff Asuzu has declared his intention to represent Nigeria at international level, despite being eligible to play for Argentina, his country of birth.
The 18-year-old striker, who plays for Argentine giants Club Atlético River Plate, is fast gaining recognition for his impressive goal-scoring skills and attacking intelligence. Born in Palermo, Buenos Aires, to a Nigerian father and Argentine mother, Asuzu remains uncapped internationally.
His father, Godwin Asuzu, confirmed the player’s preference for Nigeria, saying, “It will be a thing of pride for him to wear the green white green. The decision has always been his.”
With Nigeria’s U-20 team set for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in September, Asuzu’s potential inclusion could be a major boost for the squad. Known for his pace, versatility, and two-footed finishing, the teenager is widely seen as a future star in the making.
