Nigerian singer Victony has revealed that his near-fatal car accident in 2021 played a pivotal role in winning his parents’ support for his music career.
The ‘Soweto’ crooner, born Anthony Ebuka Victor, disclosed this during an interview on the Behind The Prestige podcast. He said his parents initially wanted him to finish school and pursue engineering.
“My parents were not cool with me doing music from the jump… But when I had my accident in 2021 and they saw how much impact I had on people… they realised my music career meant a lot to me and just let me do what I wanted,” he said.
The April 2021 crash left one person dead and three others injured. Following the incident, Victony received an outpouring of public support that shifted his parents’ perspective.
Now signed to Mainland Block Party, Victony rose to fame with his hit track Holy Father featuring Mayorkun. In 2023, he described the accident as a “blessing in disguise,” revealing he has undergone four surgeries since then.
