NEMA Delivers Relief to Victims of Yelwata Community Attack in Benue

Date:

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided emergency relief materials to victims of the June 13 attack on Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the attack left scores dead, homes destroyed, and properties razed. In response, NEMA swiftly deployed essential supplies to support those displaced and affected by the violence.

NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, said the intervention followed a rapid needs assessment conducted in collaboration with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and security agencies. Represented by the agency’s North Central Zonal Director, Mr. Aliyu Waziri, she added that a more comprehensive assessment would soon be undertaken to determine any further assistance needed.

The relief items included food and non-food materials such as bags of parboiled rice, maize, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, iodised salt, seasoning cubes, and mattresses.

“NEMA remains committed to working with all stakeholders to alleviate the suffering of victims and restore normalcy to the affected community,” Umar stated, urging for peace to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, received the items on behalf of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). He commended NEMA for the swift response, noting that the materials would significantly ease the hardship faced by the victims.
