Veteran Nigerian highlife musician Bright Chimezie has expressed joy after Afrobeats star Davido revealed he drew inspiration from his classic track Because Of English for the hit song With You, which features Omah Lay.
In an interview with Hip TV, Chimezie said he was unaware of the connection until Davido personally reached out to acknowledge it. The music legend made a cameo appearance in the recently released visuals for With You.
“Words cannot describe how I feel. I’m so delighted. I feel honoured. And I’m grateful to Davido for recognising that he drew inspiration from me,” Chimezie said.
He continued, “I didn’t even know that his song With You was inspired by my song Because Of English. He put a call across to me and confessed that he was inspired by my song. The humility and everything, I feel so happy about it.”
Chimezie, who recently signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, also noted that he is still actively making music. He added that legends like himself stepped aside over the years to allow younger artists the space to grow and shine.
