Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face the senior women’s national team of Portugal in a friendly match in Lisbon on Monday as part of preparations for the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Nigerian team, aiming to win a 10th continental title, departed Abuja on Sunday aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight and continued their journey to Lisbon from Casablanca.
In the build-up to the trip, the team secured their travel documents from the Portuguese and Moroccan embassies and held training sessions at the MKO Abiola National Stadium and Turf Arena in Abuja.
Among those already in camp are goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Tochukwu Oluehi, defender Osinachi Ohale, midfielder Christy Ucheibe, and forward Francisca Ordega. Head Coach Justine Madugu is leading the team alongside his technical staff.
They are set to be joined in Lisbon by key overseas-based players including Michelle Alozie, Ashleigh Plumptre, Rasheedat Ajibade, Halimatu Ayinde, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne, Esther Okoronkwo, Rinsola Babajide, and Chinwendu Ihezuo.
The match against Portugal will be held at the Estádio José Gomes in Amadora, Lisbon, kicking off at 7pm local time — same as in Nigeria.
The Super Falcons will also take on Ghana’s Black Queens in a second friendly in Morocco on June 29, just days before the WAFCON tournament begins.
Nigeria has been drawn into Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, with all group matches scheduled to take place at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
